The Tropical Event of the Year
SEE PICTURE GALLERY

By Juan Carlos Gonzalez Juan Carlos Gonzalez

As a preamble to begin the festivities of the Hispanic month, this past September 7th, DJ Alsy Productions organized the “Tropical Event of the Year”. Who brought us directly from Colombia, a musical plate full of well known tropical artists. Also, it included the participation of local talent with a band already known by the rumberos of Seattle; the animation of the DJ and Master of Ceremonies that had to be present for his reknowned salsa background.

“The Latin Brothers”, “La Sonora Dinamita” and Wilson Manyoma invaded the city of Seattle directly from Colombia to share the scenario with the great talent of the “Coffee Band”, the amenity of DJ Edgar “el travieso de la salsa” and the presentations by salsa excellence Gustavo “El General”.

In this occasion the venue for the party was The Eagles Hall, in Seattle, which at 8:00pm started to receive fans prepared for a great evening. The public, little by little, began to enjoy the music of DJ Edgar, “el travieso de la salsa”, who with his different Latin rhythm mixes set the atmosphere early.

Then the heat was as the versatility of the “Coffee Band” got all the dancers going. With varied, Latin hits, this band that is building its reputation day by day; demonstrated what it takes to put on a show for those lovers of live music. Salsa, merengue, bachata, cumbia, punta and reggaeton were interpreted with great quality, not leaving any doubt why they are Seattle’s “versatile orchestra”. We will continue to follow their presentaions and see how they progress in the near future.

The night was young, and there was too much to enjoy. Next on stage, The Latin Brothers revived old memories among the present when they began their presentation with the theme “Sobre las Olas”; rapidly they continued with a journey through the audience’s favorite salsa songs, and the lead singer created a true show as he interacted with all the fans present. At this time, Aladino Manyoma greeted Peru, Colombia, Mexico and Central America, and with a special mention for the Mexican fans, that either within or outside Mexico, have always been of great support and important to the successful career of “The Latin Brothers”.

The night and the atmosphere were at a high tone, but there was still one more surprise. All those present were able to enjoy the dance performance and show of “Rico Bravo Dance Company”, of unbeatable quality; it left more than one sigh among the female presence; with a signature, masculine salsa show that inevitabley motivated all salsa beginners. They also made the male presence think twice, that it may be the right time to polish up with salsa classes so as to not fall behind. Their show, worthy of any international scenario, affored all a small break between the artists’ long performances during the event.

After the energetic Latin Brothers show, the next salsa band “La Sonora Dinamita” couldn’t follow with anything less for their fans. Beginning with one of their classics “Capuyo and Soruyo”, this cumbianbera band dynamited the scenario with its danceable songs, accompanied by the active interaction of the band members, who equally shared in the enjoyment with all of the followers. As they performed their classics, the fans sang along and were able to enjoy in live the band that had made them dance for so many years.

And the evening had been prepared for a stellar end, to leave everybody one hundred percent satisfied. The former singer of the reknowned “Fruko y sus Tesos”, Wilson Manyoma, put a perfect finale to evening. Wilson interpreted several songs, including “El Preso”, “Rebelion” and other salsa and cumbia combinations that wouldn’t let the dancers take a breath and maintained the energetic atmosphere.

The night of the “Tropical Event of the Year” was approaching to an end with Wilson Manyoma who was the stellar artist of the night, with great satisfaction for all those present, achieved by having three different international groups, a great local talent band and of course the variety of rhythms mixed by the DJ.

Regarding the public, we can mention that they invaded the hall with a lot of anticipation, since they were anxiously waiting for the day these artists would come. During the whole night the dancer-fans overflowed the floor with their accumulated joy and were taken on a ride by the artists’ performances.

In conclusion, the Tropical Event of the Year was a total success for all; starting with the artists, promoters and general public, and leaving us with expectation, to see what the main promoter of the event DJ Alsy Productions, will prepare next in a near future.

Meanwhile, in the great area of Seattle, everybody will continue to enjoy salsa at full speed in the final quarter of 2007, with more salsa artists, salsa events, celebrations and what the salsa community is anxiously anticipating: “The Seattle Salsa Congress”, among various salsa activities.
